Can I share a secret? When I first heard about cycle syncing I thought it was a load of crap. Until my curiosity got the better of me and I tried it.
Turns out it was a missing piece of the puzzle that helped me to change my habits, and heal from burnout.
Let me give you a little background on my story. Back in 2016, I was working a high-pressure corporate job that led me down the path of severe burnout and adrenal fatigue.
So, I decided to start my own business for more freedom and control. However, I didn't know any better, and the workaholic tendencies from my corporate job followed me into my own business.
Then, I met Stasha, who introduced me to cycle sinking. At first, I thought it was a load of hooey, but I eventually decided to experiment with it. And it was one of the key things that helped me break those bad habits and create a business that I could run without hustling and working all the time.
So, what have I learned on this cycle sinking journey that can help you in your business?
The first thing to know is that when you're in a phase of having zero motivation and inspiration, everything just feels meh, and you can't be bothered. Remember that it will always return, and you just have to be patient and allow it to come back. You can't force it or will it to come back. It will come back as your hormones even out. Just give it time and yourself time to move back into the phase of your cycle, which is more supportive for those things.
The key to not being in that position is to use the high energy phases when you have more energy, motivation, and inspiration. Do all the creation then so that in the lower energy phases, you've got stuff ready to go. Maybe it's already scheduled to go on Instagram, and everything's just there, and you don't have to worry about it.
The more you can slow down and rest in your late luteal and early menstrual phases, the easier the other phases of your cycle will be. Each of the phases feeds into each other, just like the seasons, and nature changes. There's no clear cutoff point between one and the other. It's a gradual shift and change. When you give yourself the space to slow down, restore your energy, and make sure your cup is full before you go into the higher energy phases, those phases are easier because you're pouring from a full cup as opposed to an empty cup.
Now, I want to make a point here that you can't do cycle sinking or anything in business perfectly. You just have to do the very best that you can. When you're striving for perfection and you don't reach it, it's easy to beat yourself up when you don't reach those unrealistic expectations you've set for yourself. You just need to work with your energy and do the best that you can. Trust in your energy and work with it, as opposed to trying to wish it to be something else.
The next point is data is everything. When it comes to cycle sinking, that's tracking and charting your cycle. When it comes to other areas of your business, it's looking at your social media stats to see what content is resonating with people. It will show you what's working and what isn't. When you chart your cycle and have that data there, you can see what's working and what isn't. You can learn to work with your patterns and optimize your energy, productivity, and creativity.
And finally, you need to create space for ideas and inspiration and clarity to drop in, if you’re busy all the time you don’t hear it or hear it. You usually won’t solve the problem by trying harder, but when you walk away and create space it normally appears without much effort.
