Episode 114 - Threads - FOMO or JOMO?

Unless you’ve been offline for the last week you’ve probably heard about Instagram's new platform, Threads!

In this episode, I’m sharing my experiences with Threads and how to determine if it's the right fit for you and your business.

Key points in this episode:

  • Having an online business with a social media presence can sometimes feel like being in high school and trying to keep up with the latest trends.
  • When it comes to social media there are a few things to consider, like do you have the time and energy for this, and is this the kind of content you want to create?
  • Threads feels fun and exciting at the moment, and the engagement feels a lot more authentic and genuine. There are no rules, analytics, and algorithms.
  • When it comes to you and your business, embrace the joy of missing out and focus on what works best for you.

Cycle Aligned Business

In this episode I'm talking about Threads, Instagram's new platform, and I wanted to share my experiences with it. Unless you've been hiding under a rock, you've probably heard about it, right?

When Threads launched last week, it absolutely exploded! I signed up purely out of curiosity and wasn't expecting what has transpired over the last few days.

One of the things I noticed was how much running around and keeping up with all the different social platforms feels a little bit like being in high school and trying to keep up with all the cool kids.

From a business perspective, there are so many different platforms and places to be. We've got Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, Pinterest, YouTube, Twitter, and of course, there are many others as well. It's so easy to get FOMO or feel like you're being left behind if you're not on all of those platforms.

So, when it comes to new platforms, I like to remind myself of a few things:

Firstly, is this a platform that I like being on? If not, then there's no point in being there.

Number two, is this the kind of content I want to create? If it's not something I'm good at, am I willing to learn and get better with practice?

And lastly, do I have the time and energy to devote to this without sacrificing my goals or things that are currently more important than this new social platform?

For me, I had started to take a step back from Instagram because it had started to feel a bit spammy and a bit gross. But with Threads, it's different. There are no rules, no analytics, no algorithm, and no hashtags. We're all just making it up as we go, which is so refreshing!

The engagement on Threads feels a lot more authentic and genuine. People are having conversations, and it's so much fun. I'm totally here for it, and there's definitely a place I plan to keep hanging out.

But remember, your business, your rules, you do you.

If Threads is right for you, great! But if it's not, that's okay too. Embrace the joy of missing out and focus on what works best for you.
